our story /

When I lived in Brussels, I used to come to the yoga studio located around the corner. I loved that space - there was a unique atmosphere created by the local community of yoga students regularly coming to take a class. Also, there was a talented teacher who managed to build and retain her student community over the years.

This image of a local studio, providing the people living nearby with the opportunity to take a good yoga class, to choose to come a bit earlier and stay a bit longer to chat or have a tea or just lay on the mat or maybe ask a teacher some questions, stayed with me when I moved to The Hague. Yoga Corner is the local studio in Wateringen; it is your space around the corner.

Our mission

Yoga Corner aims to create a community and a safe space where people can feel connected to their body, find balance with their emotions, feel at ease around other people, learn and play on the mat and let go.

As we face an increasingly unpredictable world, many people find themselves challenged and feel they lack control in their lives. Yoga is a tool to connect with your breath, to re-discover the link to the ground and use the moment to pause. Yoga Corner is the space also to connect with others.

Our values

  1. All people are equal in their rights to be respected and accepted and given space regardless of skin color, age, gender, physical shape, profession, economic or social position.

  2. We treat nature with care and respect. We are looking for opportunities to minimize waste and plastic packaging usage. We like to give objects a second life.

  3. Nature also means the human body. We treat our own bodies with care and respect. We expect our students to be kind to their bodies while taking a yoga class and follow the teacher's instructions. We treat other people with kindness and respect. Being on time for class is a sign of respect to the other people around us.

Main principles of our yoga classes:

  1. Yoga is for everyone. However, not every yoga posture or every yoga class is for everyone. The teachers are always happy to suggest what yoga class might be preferable for you at the moment if you are not sure. Class descriptions are also available on our website to get you acquainted with class specifics. The teachers always give options and offer modifications for the yoga postures — the harder the posture never means the better.

  2. Yoga class is your yoga practice. The teacher is the facilitator of your own process. The teacher cannot know what you feel in your body.

  3. At any moment in the class you can always take child’s pose

  4. Though yoga can help students to feel better, yoga class is not and cannot be a substitute for medical help, neither physical nor psychological. Your yoga teacher is not trained to provide any medical advice.
